New Winnie the Pooh trailer nearly perfect
Outside of the Keane backing track, everything is damn near perfect about the Winnie the Pooh trailer. According to /Film, it’s going to adapt the original A.A. Milne tales, which will hopefully complement the original Pooh featurettes. Here’s my question — is it an update or a cash-in? I’m hoping for an update.
Zak Synder’s Sucker Punch tries to hit every nerd boner
So, Zak Snyder (300, Watchmen) is at it again. This time he lets his unadulterated film making id go and just spew forth a film that includes bi-planes, anime-influenced mechs and a giant robotic samurai with a chaingun. There’s even a dragon. And — wait for it — Jon Hamm. Though I didn’t find him … Read more
The Laws of Toyland
This is insane and awesome. Via Paul Blinov in an IM, this is an old ’80s pre-Tim Burton Batman ad from Canadian retail “giant” Zellers (think a slightly classier Wal-Mart with Canadian Olympics gear). The best part of the video by far is the Joker’s insane, horrible canned cackle. Also, been working on a post … Read more
Leno/Conan and ideology
Judd Apatow, then a writer on cult-hit TV show The Critic, voicing Jay Leno. While the Tonight Show debacle may be mostly played out — unfortunately — there hasn’t been much focused on the most interesting part of the quarrel: the ideological conflict simmering under the surface. Leno’s easy, affable working class sensibility ruled the … Read more
Hudson Mohawke — Rising 5
Look at this sick bit of musical futurism coming from young Glaswegian Hudson Mohawke. It’s kind of weird, with what sounds like a a MIDI sitar snuck into hip-hop drum beats and spacey synthesizers. The kid seems to be making some really exciting, interesting beats and backing instrumentals — I would love to hear this … Read more
Mayer Hawthorne — Maybe So, Maybe No
Check out this little bit of Detroit soul nostalgia. It’s a great tune from a white kid from Michigan — which may surprise a few people because damned if this song couldn’t be a B-side to an old soul comp on LP found in the basement bin of your local used record shop. Hawthorne’s smooth, … Read more

Liefield, Fan Culture And A Man In A Yellow Hat
So the comics internet is abuzz with the recent pranking of critical punching bag Rob Liefeld — who introduced characters like Cable and Deadpool to the Marvel Universe — by random comics blogger #321, named “Yellow Hat Guy.” During last weekend’s Wizard World, Chicago, event. YHG went up to Liefeld originally and demanded an apology … Read more
